Catholics for Choice ― Planned Giving and You
Securing Reproductive Healthcare and Rights for the Future
Time and time again, Catholics for Choice is called upon for information, advice and skills building to help individuals and organizations confidently challenge the Catholic hierarchy, which uses every means at its disposal to punish and publicly shame Catholics who don’t unquestioningly follow its edicts. The hierarchy also seeks to impose its narrow view of morality―and dangerous positions on public health issues―on Catholics and non-Catholics around the world.
The Vatican works to restrict access to reproductive healthcare and limit reproductive rights by influencing domestic and international policies. You can help fight back against the Catholic hierarchy and secure reproductive healthcare and rights for all by remembering Catholics for Choice in your will or through another type of deferred gift. Such gifts are vital to preserving and extending Catholics for Choice’s domestic and international efforts. By leaving a legacy that upholds our work you help secure reproductive healthcare and reproductive rights for future generations.
Planned Giving Opportunities
Planned gifts are easy to make and represent a present-day commitment to the long-term future of Catholics for Choice. There are several ways you can make a planned gift to CFC:
- Retirement Plans
- Life Insurance Plans
- Charitable Gift Annuities and
- Charitable Trusts (Remainder and Lead)
I give to Catholics for Choice, a nonprofit organization located in Washington, DC, [insert a description of your bequest— including a specific dollar amount, percentage of the estate or exact asset to be devised—and indicate whether the bequest is for unrestricted or specific purposes].
You do not have to rewrite your will to make a bequest to CFC. You can easily add Catholics for Choice to your existing will through an appendix or codicil. Gifts to CFC are tax-exempt to the extent permitted by law.
This is the simplest type of planned gift to make. All you need to do is designate Catholics for Choice as a beneficiary on the form provided by the company that manages your retirement plan. Retirement plans are the highest-taxed asset in your estate and therefore only a small fraction of the total value of your plan may pass to your heirs. Naming Catholics for Choice as a beneficiary will pass your assets tax-free to CFC, allowing you to fulfill your charitable objectives and preserve more of your estate’s value for your heirs.
Life Insurance Plans
The gift of a fully paid life insurance policy that your heirs may no longer need can support the mission of Catholics for Choice and provide you with a significant tax deduction. To receive a tax deduction, you can designate CFC as both the owner and beneficiary of your policy. Check with your insurance company to get more details.
Charitable Gift Annuities
A charitable gift annuity (CGA) will pay you and/or a loved one a fixed annuity for life, with the remaining principal passing to Catholics for Choice after your lifetime. Additionally, you may receive an immediate income tax deduction for a portion of the gift. A CGA offers a guaranteed rate of return based on the size of the gift and on the age(s) of up to two beneficiaries when the gift is made.
Charitable Remainder Trust
Charitable Lead Trust
By establishing a charitable trust, you may bypass current and future capital gains taxes, receive a charitable income tax deduction and decrease or eliminate future estate and/or gift taxes.
